Rough Edge Cartography is an ongoing series of abstract acrylic paintings on grounded and, in some cases, natural canvas, exploring the theme of migration, both its symbols and the motivations behind it. Migration, whether human, economic, or even digital, has become a recurring focus in my recent work.
In this series, I construct imaginary maps defined by rough lines and borders. Maps shape how we understand place, destination, and distance; they guide both migration and exploration. These imagined, abstract maps aim to trace a cartography of the mind, the rough borders acting as a framework that gives direction and structure to journeys of discovery.
The deliberate use of borders introduces a geometric element, creating tension between spontaneity and structure. This interplay reflects the relationship between the maps’ organic forms and the rigid geometry that contains them.
